What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a complex and challenging disease that requires daily attention. This happens when your body doesn’t make enough insulin or can’t use it properly. Our team of Dietitians and Nurse Educations are here to support you through the process. Our goal is to put you in the driver’s seat of your care by providing you with the education and skills needed to control your sugars.

Diabetes is a serious disease, but you can decrease your risk of developing complications by keeping your blood sugar in target. We are here to help you get started on your health journey today.

Insurance generally covers the visit, but FHS may offer these services at a $20 per appointment cost to you if there is a gap in your coverage.

Get Started with Small Steps Today

  • Decrease the amount of sugary drinks you consume daily by half.

  • Add 15 more minutes of physical activity every day

  • If you smoke, call the quit line to begin the process of quitting.

  • Test your blood sugar when you first wake up in the morning and record it in a log

  • Keep a food journal

  • Get 7-8 hours of sleep every night

  • Add 1 more serving of vegetables to your lunch or dinner daily

  • Enlist support from your friends and family

Sliding Fee Discount

Family Health Services provides a sliding fee discount and no one is refused care based upon their inability to pay.
